Outstanding Achievement in Innovation
“As document imaging solutions evolve, we’re seeing the bar raised across all the categories of products we cover. We’re seeing more advanced capabilities and expanded feature sets that lead directly to enhanced productivity for users,” said BLI Senior Editor Jamie Bsales. “This season’s Pick products faced a pool of strong competitors, but stood out to BLI’s editors as the leaders in their respective categories. Additionally, our Outstanding Achievement in Innovation award recognizes software developers for their ingenuity with breakthrough products.”
Canon Takes Home Two Wins
Canon impressed the BLI team this Pick season with two new solutions that enable organizations to work smartly. The first, Canon Intelligent Grading Solution, allows educators to print multiple-choice tests and scan completed tests for automated grading and analysis at equipped Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs.
“Canon’s Intelligent Grading Solution is a very good way for schools to add an intuitive, convenient testing and grading system to their arsenal,” said BLI’s Bsales. “School administrators will appreciate that the solution demands little in the way of IT involvement and little to no training for educators. A quick tutorial at the MFP is all that’s needed to show teachers how to use it.” Chief among the solution’s benefits is that teachers will spend significantly less time scoring tests, since that process is automated for them.
“Canon is honored to receive a BLI Summer 2014 Pick Award for our Intelligent Grading Solution,” said Junichi Yoshitake, senior vice president and general manager, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “This award validates our commitment to helping educators streamline the testing and grading process, allowing for more time to focus on student achievement.”
Canon’s unique Scan to Worldox solution, a MEAP application that allows users to scan hardcopy documents to a Worldox GX 3 repository directly from the control panel of supported Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs, was honored for its innovation compared to previous connectors available for Worldox.
“Unlike generic connectors, Scan to Worldox minimizes the time users need to spend at the MFP by giving them real-time access to the client matters in Worldox GX that they use most, and by pre-populating index fields at the MFP wherever possible,” explained BLI’s Bsales. “Also unlike other connectors, Canon Scan to Worldox is a MEAP application that does not require dedicated server-resident software to process and route documents captured at the MFP.”
“Canon is also proud to be recognized with an Outstanding Achievement in Innovation award,” added Canon’s Yoshitake. “Scan to Worldox is a prime example of how Canon is committed to specialized vertical markets, leveraging our customizable imageRUNNER ADVANCE multifunction embedded application platform to help improve document access and integration tasks for legal organizations of all sizes.”
Dell Delivers Cloud Scanning and Printing — for Free
Dell Document Hub is a free MFP- and cloud-based solution that allows users to scan documents to, and print documents from, popular online repositories right from the MFP’s control panel. The solution offers OCR processing in the cloud, and delivers the best file-format conversion support BLI has seen in an MFP-based capture solution to date.
“We have seen the future of MFP-based document-capture apps, and it looks a lot like Dell Document Hub,” declared BLI’s Bsales. “The solution lets users scan documents to a wide array of cloud services. And in BLI’s tests, it delivered excellent OCR accuracy when converting files to Microsoft Office formats.”
“Dell Document Hub allows you to easily connect your Dell printer to popular cloud services to share documents, image and digital content, enabling you to collaborate with users wherever they are located,” said Don Heath, marketing director, Dell Global Imaging. “We are excited that Dell Document Hub has been recognized by BLI as Outstanding MFP Connector Solution. Having received multiple awards from BLI is a testament to our commitment to offering customers reliable, manageable printing solutions of outstanding value that empower them to do more.”
Digitech Systems Makes Content Management Manageable
The PaperVision platform delivers efficient document filing and collaboration capabilities along with complete data search features for finding stored documents. Moreover, PaperVision Enterprise delivers the most complete document security features BLI has seen to date that not only ensure the integrity of a company’s valuable documents, but also help an organization meet the various compliance requirements imposed by government regulations.
“PaperVision Enterprise is among the most feature-complete yet user-friendly ECM systems BLI has tested to date—a combination that helped it stand out among its peers,” said Bsales. “Knowledge workers will be able to spend more time on customer-facing or revenue-generating activities and less time on wasteful administrative tasks.”
“We are honored that PaperVision Enterprise has been chosen as a Summer 2014 Pick award winner by Buyers Laboratory,” said HK Bain, CEO of Digitech Systems. “We’re passionate about making information management easier and less expensive for organizations. With PaperVision Enterprise, our customers improve the efficiency of their business processes and boost control of sensitive information to comply with a wide variety of regulations. Best of all, numerous ROI studies show that our customers save significant money with PaperVision Enterprise. It is gratifying to see the product recognized as one of the best products in the ECM industry at delivering these benefits.”
Kodak Alaris Corrals another Win for Production Scanning
“Once again, Kodak Alaris impressed us with the breadth of functionality and ease of use offered by Capture Pro Software 4.5. A noteworthy enhancement to this version is definitely the OMR recognition, which accurately indexed the checkboxes on every test document BLI evaluated,” said Lisa Reider, BLI senior product editor for scanners. “Plus, the company offers free connectors to more than 40 back-end systems, which adds tremendous value.”
A two-time Pick award winner, KODAK Capture Pro is a desktop data capture and indexing solution that works with any KODAK scanner and most third-party scanners to digitize and route scanned hard copies. Aimed at dedicated scan operators within an organization, Capture Pro 4.5 helps users transform paper documents into electronic information for easy management, storage and retrieval. It offers most of the features buyers of an automatic scan capture solution are likely to need, such as automated batch processing, drag-and-drop OCR, image processing and basic OMR recognition.
“We are very pleased that BLI has once again recognized Kodak Capture Pro software as a leading document capture solution,” said Rod Hughes, general manager, Software & Solutions for Kodak Alaris’s Document Imaging division. “This award validates our efforts to continually deliver additional value to new customers and to tens of thousands of customers who are already using Capture Pro. The addition of optical mark detection for the automatic indexing of surveys and checkmark forms is one example of a new capability introduced in version 4.5 that addresses customer needs. Our established track record for delivering ongoing value, through broad language support and a powerful array of productivity features, makes Capture Pro a perfect complement to our leading scanner portfolio.”
Konica Minolta Offers Exceptional Mobile Printing
Konica Minolta PageScope Mobile, a free app for Android and iOS devices, offers users the ability to print documents stored on the mobile device, in the cloud or attached to emails, and more. The easy-to-navigate app offers a plethora of print settings, including the ability to save frequently used settings as favorites. Importantly, PageScope Mobile includes a wide range of security features that help protect company data, such as secure print release and QR code authentication. Other distinguishing features include robust scanning options as well as support for printing a wide range of document types, including Microsoft Office legacy file formats.
“Konica Minolta PageScope Mobile packs a powerful punch with its strong feature set and, in particular, excellent security functions,” said BLI Solutions Analyst Ilja Reuckis. “While mobile printing is becoming so prevalent, the practice is not without significant IT risk. PageScope Mobile mitigates most of that risk with some of the most stringent security features we’ve seen.”
“Having PageScope Mobile named Outstanding Mobile Print App supports our commitment to ensuring that Konica Minolta customers have streamlined and secure mobile access where and when it’s needed,” said Kevin Kern, senior vice president of marketing for Konica Minolta Business Solutions, U.S.A., Inc.
Nuance Tops the Competition in Document Capture/Routing and Output Management
Nuance Communications returns this Pick season with two-award winning solutions. The first, eCopy ShareScan 5.2, lets the vast majority of networked MFPs serve as the entry point for paper documents to merge into an organization’s digital workflow by integrating with more than 100 leading business applications. This latest version also added the ability to incorporate electronic documents into the platform’s custom workflows.
“eCopy ShareScan’s custom workflows are made up of a three-step capture/process/deliver progression, and at each stage, ShareScan excels,” explained BLI’s Bsales. “Routing hardcopy and electronic documents directly into electronic workflows not only speeds access to information, but also enhances information security through the use of document audit trails, document rights and encryption.”
“With eCopy ShareScan 5.2, Nuance Document Imaging extended capture capabilities beyond MFPs and scanners to include electronic workflows and capture and processing of documents, files and images,” said Chris Strammiello, vice president worldwide marketing and product strategy for Nuance Document Imaging. “We thank BLI for recognizing the benefits and innovation that make eCopy ShareScan 5.2 the best-selling MFP capture solution on the market.”
The second award winner, Equitrac Express 5, is an outstanding, feature-rich print and copy output management and cost recovery solution for educational institutions of all sizes. It enables organizations to deploy the solution differently depending on the printing environment. For instance, in a university library, students would need to use a pre-paid account to print, while in the faculty lounge, professors can receive warnings when they’ve reached their respective quotas, but remain able to print. This hybrid arrangement promotes productivity and helps prevent output costs from skyrocketing.
“Equitrac Express 5 is undoubtedly a superior product for education, especially with all of the budget cuts and restrictions that market continues to face year after year,” said BLI Senior Writer Carl Schell. “It’s student-friendly, too, with mobile access and pop-ups that help lessen printing costs. And now with the added Capture & Send component, Equitrac Express delivers a seamlessly integrated print management/document capture ecosystem.”
“Educational organizations utilize Equitrac Express to gain control of campus-wide printing, while making printing convenient, secure and accessible for all users,” added Nuance’s Strammiello. “These benefits, matched with IT enhancements making it more flexible and easy to install than ever, deliver the industry’s leading print management solution.”
Fleet Management Made Easy with OKI PrintSuperVision 4
OKI PrintSuperVision 4 Enterprise eases the burden of monitoring and managing a fleet of devices, letting IT managers and help-desk personnel remotely monitor device status, receive automatic e-mail alerts when a problem arises, change device settings via the utility and more. Not only does it offer powerful features in those areas, its enables managers to monitor and track device output usage by individuals or departments.
“OKI PrintSuperVision Enterprise is a well-thought-out and remarkably complete device management utility that offers customers a wealth of functionality in an easy-to-use package,” noted BLI’s Bsales. “It offers exceedingly quick setup and device discovery—among the fastest BLI has seen to date compared to competing utilities—along with several standout features that set PSV apart from standard OEM fleet management tools.”
“OKI Data Americas is honored to receive the Summer 2014 Pick award for Outstanding Network Device Management solution for our PrintSuperVision 4 Enterprise print management utility,” said Doug August, senior product manager, Industry Solutions for OKI Data Americas. “PrintSuperVision Enterprise is an easy way for large businesses to remotely monitor and manage their document imaging devices across multiple locations. PSV is a tremendous complement to OKI’s broad and award-winning portfolio of printing solutions, delivering greater workplace productivity, efficiency and reporting functionality.”
Print Audit Facilities Manager 3 Packs a Punch with More Features Than Ever Before
Print Audit Facilities Manager 3 is one of the most full-featured fleet management solutions available, making it an ideal choice to serve as the basis for an MPS system for single- or multi-line service providers of any size. The platform’s primary functions are automating meter read collection, providing remote diagnostics and generating email alerts for consumables and error-conditions warnings. Facilities Manager promotes a proactive service approach that increases productivity and reduces costs for dealers and their customers, which is why BLI has chosen to recognize it in BLI’s Summer 2014 Pick season.
“Facilities Manager has steadily remained one of the best fleet management/MPS tools BLI has evaluated. In fact, this is the second time it’s been awarded our prestigious Pick award,” said BLI’s Schell. “In version three, we were particularly impressed with the alerting system, which is more customizable and detailed than ever before. Overall, it’s a stellar MPS tool that offers very good value.”
“We are honored to receive BLI's Summer 2014 Pick award as Outstanding MPS Solution,” said John MacInnes, president and CEO of Print Audit. “Winning this award and earning a 5-Star rating is the perfect way to launch Version 3 of Facilities Manager.”
Sharp Succeeds with Cloud Solution for SMBs
Sharp Cloud Portal Office v1.0 is a cloud-based, hosted document management and collaboration platform that provides SMBs with a manageable, affordable way to share and access important documents from anywhere. Version control, access permissions, account freezing and five modes of access (PC, browser, mobile device, Sharp OSA MFPs and Aquos Boards) helped Cloud Portal Office win an Outstanding Achievement in Innovation award.
“Cloud Portal Office is very intuitive. Its no-fuss interface separates work into two overarching categories, My Docs and Others’ Docs, which are terms users can easily relate to,” said Jessica Schiffenhaus, BLI associate editor. “But more importantly, given the rapidly growing mobile workforce, Cloud Portal Office follows workers wherever they go. Gone are the days of worrying about a USB flash drive or emailing file after file. As long as users’ files are stored in Cloud Portal Office, they can access and share them anywhere—even in the meeting room.”
“We are proud of BLI’s recognition of our Cloud Portal Office solution,” said Vince Jannelli, director of product management applications, Sharp Information and Imaging Company of America. “In today’s increasingly mobile workforce there is a strong need for companies to share information while simultaneously maintaining control over critical documents. Sharp’s Cloud Portal Office is a cost-effective content management solution for businesses large and small, allowing companies to satisfy the multiple collaboration needs of their workforce.”
