Canon Wins BLI Summer 2010 “Pick” Award for Print Management and MPS Solution
Buyers Laboratory Inc. (BLI), the world’s leading independent evaluator of document imaging products and solutions, has announced its Summer 2010 “Pick” winners honoring outstanding document imaging software solutions. BLI’s prestigious “Pick” awards acknowledge the top-performing document imaging solutions evaluated in BLI's lab during the previous six months. Canon imageWARE Remote 3.5, from Canon U.S.A., has been named Outstanding MPS/Print Management Solution by the editors at BLI.
“Document imaging solutions are proving to be the lifeblood of the industry,” noted BLI Managing Editor Daria Hoffman. “From the capture solutions that digitize and route hardcopies to the management software that helps customers retrieve files to the assessment and print management tools that enable a dealer to deliver managed print services, these solutions help resellers engage and retain customers in an environment where hardware alone has been a tough sell.”
Canon U.S.A. Takes BLI’s Top Honors for MPS Solutions
Targeted at Canon’s authorized resellers, Canon imageWARE Remote is a print management solution that delivers crucial information to service operations, and can serve as the backbone of an MPS (managed print services) practice. It automates meter collection, provides real-time diagnostics and alerts for consumables and error conditions, and, in combination with Canon’s Content Delivery System (CDS), allows for offsite firmware upgrades. It also enables better understanding of an organization’s fleet and output, which helps with equipment rightsizing.
“In the past, imageWARE Remote proved to be a simple system for Canon service providers to use. And now, with several key new features, the company has improved the solution and made it even easier to employ,” said BLI Associate Editor Carl Schell. “And unlike most other print management platforms, the solution is free for resellers to deploy—no associated costs, and no options to select and pay for.”
Canon imageWARE Remote collects meter reads and provides status and diagnostic information for an array of Canon devices, from MFPs to single-function, production and wide-format printers, and it also can gather basic meter and status information for third-party hardware. In addition, data can be passed through to ECi’s OMD or Digital Gateway’s e-automate, an application that many Canon dealers utilize as their billing, dispatch and administrative platform.
“Canon is pleased that imageWARE Remote has been recognized by Buyers Lab as a Summer 2010 ‘Pick’ award winner,” said Dennis Amorosano, senior director, Solutions Marketing & Business Support, Imaging Services Group, Canon U.S.A. “As a remote service diagnostic system, imageWARE Remote has been developed to empower Canon channel partners and end-users to achieve extraordinary performance and uptime by simplifying the management and on-going service of installed devices. When implemented, imageWARE Remote has proven effective in minimizing device downtime and automating traditional manual tasks associated with meter collection and toner ordering."

Twice a year with its “Pick” awards, BLI gives special recognition to the hardware and software products that provided the most outstanding performances in BLI’s unique evaluations. For MFPs, printers, scanners, wide-format devices and digital duplicators, BLI’s awards stand alone in that they are based on a rigorous battery of lab tests that includes an extensive durability test, which uniquely qualifies BLI to assess reliability, which is a critical factor for buyers and IT directors.
Software solutions undergo an in-depth hands-on review that focuses on key attributes for a solution’s target market and compares how well the product stacks up against leading competitors. Pick winners rise above the competition in key areas such as value, feature set, ease of use, ease of administration, hardware compatibility, software integration, security and support.
Software solutions earn an overall rating based on a five-star scale, and “Pick” contenders are culled from those that earn the highest ratings. Consequently, a BLI “Pick” is a hard-earned award that buyers and IT directors can trust to better guide them in their acquisition decisions.
